About This Spot

Stepping into Tacos el Yiyo is like catching a breath of a vibrant, spirited neighborhood gathering where the heart of authentic Mexican cooking pulses gently but insistently. Tucked away on a quiet stretch of W Buckeye Rd, this unassuming spot carries the warm, smoky embrace of charcoal grills that fill the air with an irresistible invitation long before you step inside.

The pace here is relaxed yet lively, a place where locals come to share not just meals but moments — laughter mingling softly with the soft hum of Spanish music and the clinking of glass bottles of Mexican Coke served chilled. The dining space itself whispers of simplicity and comfort, where a small salsa and topping bar encourages you to customize each bite exactly as you like, enhancing the richly layered flavors that Tacos el Yiyo is quietly celebrated for.

This is a realm of bold, honest flavors carried by tortillas wrapped around carefully charred meats — whether it’s the tender richness of lengua, the bright, tangy allure of al pastor, or the soulful depth of birria. Each taco holds a story, a hint of tradition, and a smoky charred note that speaks of charcoal fires gently coaxing out the essence of each ingredient. The menu’s diversity invites curious palates to explore a world of textures and tastes, from the crispy crackle of chicharron to the hearty comfort of menudo rojo.

More than just a meal, dining at Tacos el Yiyo feels like entering a shared moment — a local secret shared openly, a place where authenticity means something felt deeply in the aromas, the sizzles, and the smiles exchanged across tables. It’s a heartfelt pause, a chance to be part of a community’s everyday joy, all wrapped in corn tortillas and seasoned with a touch of smoky nostalgia.

Hidden gem, mainly locals who are Spanish speaking only but Very authentic Mexican food with no frills, you can order in English no problem. In a mixed use building so drive way into parking lot can easily be missed. Plenty of parking and the smell of charcoal is a pleasure and welcoming sign you are in the right place. Dining room is small but has a great salsa / topping bar with many choices including roasted onions and peppers and a warm salsa, as well as cilantro, lime, pickled veggies, multiple red and green salsa choices with individual containers and bags for everything. Authentic Mexicans sodas and beer available as well. Food is always made to order and comes out hot and fresh, Tacos, burritos and quesabirria are my favorite but honestly everything here looks amazing. I've been on an Al Pastor Burrito kick lately. Good service and good prices have made me a regular.

Just returned from Mexico for my cataract surgery checkup, and on my way to a listing appointment recommended by my wonderful Filipino community, I stumbled upon a gem of a taco restaurant: Tacos el Yiyo! Located at 10933 W Buckeye Rd, Avondale, AZ, this place instantly brought back memories of some of the best tacos I've ever had. I decided to treat myself and ordered a delightful mix: 2 steak tacos, 2 al Pastor, 1 chicken taco, and a refreshing Mexican Coke, all for just $15. Initially, the tacos tasted decent, but once I loaded them up with fresh onions, cilantro, pickled onions, carrots, grilled jalapeños, and a variety of other toppings, they transformed into something truly magical! Each bite was a burst of flavor that made my taste buds dance with joy. I can't wait to return, especially after my photography appointment. I plan to leave a little early so I can savor more of those incredible tacos. I have a feeling that the meats will taste even better when they come straight off the grill, and I’m looking forward to experiencing that deliciousness again. Tacos el Yiyo is definitely a place I will be visiting frequently!

If you're looking for a memorable taco experience, Tacos el Yiyo on W Buckeye Rd is a must-visit. The service was great and the ambiance was nice with Spanish music playing, adding to the overall atmosphere. The food was simply amazing, and I highly recommend giving it a try! I personally enjoyed three flavorful asada tacos and two juicy pollo tacos, which were mouthwatering. The taco station was the cherry on top as I could customize my tacos with all the toppings I wanted. Don't miss out on the chance to try Tacos el Yiyo, it won't disappoint!

Hidden Gem, looks like it's attached to a tire shop so it is a little hard to find, but the food is bangin! Not to spicy although if that's what your into they got you! The Salsa Bar has a little bit of everything. They don't have suger free drinks is my only suggestion to make it perfect
